October seems to mark the beginning of the downhill march of the year; Halloween is just around the corner, then soon Thanksgiving will be upon us, and before you know it, Christmas season will be starting up. (Actually, since it is October now, Christmas season will soon be coming to a Wal-Mart near you!)
Although the year is starting to wind down, the call of the church to be the church never winds down. On the contrary, I believe that it is during this time of year that the call for the church to be the church actually grows greater. In 2 Timothy 4:2, Paul tells Timothy, “Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season.” This time of the year is part of the “in season”; there are so many opportunities in this last part of 2016 to preach the word, to share the message of the gospel, to show people that even though the world around us is dark and dreary, through Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection, hope abounds for those who believe. That all starts with the church being the church, and with us being the light.
So as we hit this last stretch of 2016 and begin to look toward 2017, it is my hope that you will join in helping Flushing Christian Church take advantage of the opportunities to be the light and share the gospel with a world that needs to hear it.
